About the event

The Rugby Club of Victoria is proud to present a hearty lunch and meaty rugby discussion... 'The State of Rugby'

It’s 2023, now 200 years after William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and ran with it. So, what is the state of rugby today? A game dominated by frustration around cards, too many scrum resets and boring line-out maul tries? Or is rugby still the game they play in heaven?

Will Australia ever be good at rugby again? How do you beat the Crusaders? Or Ireland? Does rugby need fixing, and if so, how?

Join us for a tasty lunch while our expert panel chews over all of this and much more. Includes audience Q & A.

Our expert panel comprises three devoted rugby men from different areas of the game, all deep thinkers, all forthright in their opinions about rugby. Come along prepared to be entertained, to challenge and be challenged.

Peter Grigg – bona-fide Wallaby legend Peter Grigg played 25 Tests spanning the period 1980-1987, including five appearances at the inaugural Rugby World Cup. A student of the game, Griggy speaks the way he played; cutting through the noise, finding the straightest path to the try-line.

Colin Mansbridge– a rugby man through and through, Colin Mansbridge has been at the helm of the all-conquering Crusaders franchise since 2018. Here’s your opportunity to find out what the Crusaders’ ‘secret sauce’ is, straight from the CEO himself.

Geoff Parkes – a forthright voice on Australian and world rugby, popular rugby columnist at www.theroar.com.au Geoff Parkes, is also the author of the 2017 book, ‘A World in Conflict; the Global Battle for Rugby Supremacy’.

Join us for this great lunch event, and come along afterwards to AAMI Park to cheer on the Rebels as they take on the mighty Crusaders.
